My blogger friend Brad over at Writing to Freedom is having a birthday today. If you haven’t visited Brad’s blog, you’re in for a treat. He takes beautiful photos and writes poetry (often haiku) to complement them.
He invited his followers and their muses to stop by. My usual muses are negotiating with a necromancer and outsmarting reapers, so I contacted a muse escort service and this is who they sent:
I didn’t know there were haiku muses, but apparently, they’re everywhere. Just check your backyard or local park. My diminutive muse flitted around the garden while I packed a picnic. She wanted to show me a place called Silver Falls.
Happy Birthday, Brad. My little muse and I wrote these for you!
hidden glades of light
sift through mottled canopies
a glimpse of magic
***
fiddleheads unfurl
green curlicues and whimsy
crowning last year’s fronds
***
boughs of emerald lace
spring’s parasols catch the light
fragrant in the sun
***
old stumps die and thrive
nurse a woodland’s nascent growth
life cycles entwined
***
silver waterfalls
glittering with frothy light
rainbow in the mist
***
Happy Birthday to Brad from the land of big trees!
Love this so much, Diana. Haiku fairies are the best. 🧚♀️

Thanks, my friend. Aren’t they? I need to make up some images for her sisters of the other seasons. (And remember my season words.)

Create your own season words by drawing reference to the flowers and trees in your area (animals too). There is a section on “humanity” in the kigo words for each season. We will explore those more next year in my challenge. Many places don’t have seasons, but wet or dry. Still, when the cactus bloom we know it’s spring. I’m trying not to say winter, spring, summer, or fall. If we can allude to the season, I think our haiku is even more expressive. 🧡

I think so too. It’s fun learning how to make the poetry beautiful within the confines of the form. I like the puzzle. 🙂

Wonderfully imaginative haiku, Diana! And what an adorable muse! 🙂 This is delightful poetry, and the photos are so peaceful and verdant. Those ferns bring back some special memories of my trips to Silver Falls. I have a photo of the underside of a western sword fern covered in what appears to be orange spores that I’ll be posting on my blog soon (as well as a couple of images of South Falls and a little trailside cascade). This really is a magical place. Thanks for linking me to it. 🙂

Thanks so much, Mike. I didn’t mean to monopolize your day. Ha ha. It’s a lovely place. I have a thing for waterfalls, obviously.
