A review from Sally Cronin, blogger and author extraordinaire, is always a delight. The review of Soul Swallowers got me off the couch for a happy dance. Thank you, Sally!
This week my review is for D.Wallace Peach and Soul Swallowers (The Shattered Sea Book 1)
About the book
When swallowed, some souls gift insights, wisdom, a path to understanding. Others unleash power, proficiency with a sword, and indifference to death. One soul assimilates with ease. But swallow a host of the dead and risk a descent into madness.
Estranged from his family over the murder of his wife, young Raze Anvrell wields his fists to vent his rage. Then a chance at a new life beckons, and he retreats to the foothills of the Ravenwood, the haunt of unbound ghosts. Nice! It’s especially nice to read an appraisal of your work after you’ve had time away from it, isn’t it, Diana? I find I’m often kinder to — more complimentary toward — my own work with distance from it.

Great review, but woah, synchronicity. Do you know I named my property Ravenwood?!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Oooh. Is your property home to unswallowed souls? Not necessarily bad ones, just lost ones? I love that name for a forest. My property in Oregon is the Dragonwood, and it’s where you can find the Gnome Tree and the witch’s stump and her mosquito horde. Love your comment, Julie. Thanks so much for stopping by to read Sally’s review and for leaving me with a smile!

Thanks for the review, Sally. I’m a big fan of D Wallace Peach so I will be having a look at this book. The idea of swallowing souls is interesting. It makes me think of cannibals who ate the flesh of dead heroes to absorb their strength. And in face, a lot of religions have a custom of imbibing the Godhead.

Great comment, Elizabeth. The book is a bit of a tangent from that idea. Less “horror” and more “ethics” is what I was going for, and the practice is accepted and mostly consensual. 🙂 Thanks so much for swinging by to read Sally’s review!
