I think a lot of us can relate to muses that wake us up in the middle of the night… like Jan’s muse. Enjoy.
MY MUSE
D. Wallace Peach put out a call on her Myths of the Mirror blog site challenging authors to write about their muse. I wasn’t going to write anything and then this happened. 🙂 True story!
“Jan. Jan. Wake up.”
Someone taps on my shoulder.
I burrow deeper under the covers.
Louder this time. “Jan. Wake up.”
I groan and roll over with one eye open. “What do you want? I’m sleeping.”
“Yes, I know but wait until you hear this.”
I rub my eyes and yawn, then glance at the clock.
“It’s 4 am. I’m tired. I work hard and I need my rest. Can I just take some notes and get to it when the sun comes up?”
“No! If you do, you’ll lose it. Come on.” He reached out a hand and I took it, regretting that action.
Now on my feet…

Very nice muse but even I would not like to write or get my thinking mind to write any muse in the morning. Great post, Diana.

Thanks for reading, Kamal. Those muses don’t care about the time. Jan’s muse cracked me up but I guess he did his job since he got her writing! Have a lovely day, my friend.

Lol. He did, but then he took a nap! I wonder how many of us are roused by our muses in the wee hours of the morning? Probably a lot!

Mine hasn’t done that to me yet. I wouldn’t be able to go back to sleep if she did. Probably I hang up a do not disturb sign! 😉

Thanks for the visit, Cindy. I think you’re right about the way non-writers view writers. A little nuts indeed! Lol.

LOL… No fair how the muses always get to chill out as soon as we start working. Maybe that’s why mine is such a taskmaster. She wants to get some rest.

I thought the sleeping muse was pretty funny, Sheri. AFTER getting his writer up. I think we all can relate to the middle of the night inspiration. Lol.

Yes, I have this nice little voice recording app on my phone where I mumble my basic ideas without turning on the lights 😉 My Nanowrimo story this year started out from a dream idea and got modified mid-month with another dream about it. Never had a second dream on the same story before. Definitely inspired.

That’s cool. I have lots of repeat dreams but just Can. Not. Remember. Them! I love the idea of recording. I tend to write in the dark and then wonder what I wrote in the morning!

Yes, lost many good ideas to indecipherable scribbles. LOL. Even the recording is somewhat tougher to understand than my ‘daytime’ voice. Kind of funny to hear what happens when I try to connect voice/verbal coordination to dream-state. But works faster and I can drop right back to sleep. Highly recommended. 🙂

Yes, it felt remarkable. And the story flowed to full novel length without much struggle. I hope to publish it in 2021. Thanks, Jan!
