2019 is old news now and what a crazy, hectic year it was – spending weeks on the road, living in other people’s houses, and sitting in doctor’s offices and emergency rooms. I’m glad it’s over, but there were a few highlights – especially when it came to reading.
My Goodreads reading goal was a whopping 30 books. I read 100!
What fun to browse the covers and remember all the books that kept me sane. Do you see yours in there?
If you do, THANK YOU!
What’s your reading goal for 2020?

Thank you. I don’t expect to read as many since life has calmed down for me. But maybe 52 (my new goal). Wishing you a wonderful 2020 full of great books. 🙂

Holy cow! Well done, Diana! I do remember you get Siri to read to you sometimes; audiobooks are great for that. I always hope to read one book a month. Happy reading in 2020!

Siri read a lot of these while I was driving and driving and driving. My goal for 2020 is 52 books. I’ve stopped playing mindless games on my phone, so hopefully I’ll reach it. Writing will come first this year, though. Thanks for the visit and Happy Writing!

That’s a lot of reading. Congratulations!!! I’ve not come even close to that.

I had a lot of turmoil in the past year and had to stop writing since I was on the road. Reading was a life-saver. This year will be less reading, but I’m still hoping for 50 books. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Reading.

My goal is 20 this year, and I’m not sure I will find the time. So, even 50 is a crazy amount I could not possibly keep up with. I think it’s great you get that much read. Enjoy every minute. 📚

Congratulations! I do like that goodreads lets us look at what we’ve read year to year. I fell far short of 100, but improved on 2018. (K)

I like how Goodreads does this too. It’s fun to browse those covers and remember the great reads. I won’t read this many this coming year (I’m hoping for a less crazy 2020), but it was a huge pleasure. Happy Reading!

It was a crazy year, Betsy, and I filled in the gaps with reading, or I would have been a wreck. Books kept me balanced. This year will be about half, my guess, unless things go off the rails again. Happy Reading!

I hear ya. You did have a crazy year. I’m glad you had books and audio books to help you through that.

Wow! 100 books!! You’re amazing, Diana, you really are! My goal was 60 – and I read 59! 😄 Which still drives me a bit crazy – lol!

Oh well. You did awesomely great anyway. I only read 100 because life was throwing me for a loop, (and I had to read all day that last one in!) This year, I’m hoping for more writing, so my total will go down. Which is just fine. Happy Reading and Happy New Year!

I joined Goodreads because I read this post! If I figure out how to add friends, I’ll look for you! 🙂

Ha ha. Goodreads is a little hard to figure out at first, but once you get it down, it’s easy. What I love about it is that they do all the work in tracking our books and reviews and compiling results. I’m not a stickler about goals, but it is great fun to see the line-up of covers at the end of the year. I’ll find you and “friend.” Happy Reading!

Congratulations. You did very well to read 100 books. I was pleased to see my Amanda in Holland there amongst all those great books. xo

You’re welcome and my pleasure, Darlene. I don’t expect to read quite so much this coming year (it was triggered by so much upheaval), but maybe half that(?). Much better than TV. Thanks for stopping by and I hope your new year has started with a bang. 🙂

If you don’t like a book, Diana, do you leave an honest review, or do you simply decline to comment? I tend to review a book exactly as I’ve responded to it — warts and all — but I know some authors who won’t be critical of other authors. One way isn’t right and one isn’t wrong — just curious what your outlook is?

If I’m not enjoying a book, Sean, I usually don’t finish it. There are so many good books out there, that I don’t like to waste any time on one that just isn’t cutting it for me. In those cases, I don’t review.
If I’m not reading in my genre (for example, I’m reading romance, which I can barely tolerate) I try to evaluate the book in light of how a romance-reader would enjoy it. I evaluate it on more specific qualities: depth of characterization, plausibility of the plot, flow of dialog, etc.
In a few cases, I’m committed to reviewing and unable to DNF (Goodreads Review Rounds specifically). In those cases, I’m reading in my genre and will be totally honest. Sometimes that’s hard to do, but readers (and authors) need honest information. Hopefully that answers your question. Reviewing is sensitive work!

Reviewing is indeed a delicate balancing act between sensitivity and honesty. Interesting to get your perspectives, Diana. I, too, have given myself license to stop reading a book I’m not enjoying, something I never used to do! Life’s too short and my reading list too long!!!

I used to ALWAYS finish a book (as if I thought it was a mortal sin to stop). Ha ha.

100 books! I think I managed a handful last year. I’m so honored to see my Blue on your list. Thank you so very much for your support, dear Diana. Wishing you a coming year and decade overflowing with inspiration.

My pleasure, J.D. Have you considered bringing your book back into print or creating an ebook? It was a fascinating read. 🙂 Yeah, I had a bookful year and don’t expect a repeat, but it was a blast. Happy New Year. ❤

Wow! I’m so jealous of your reading time, Diana. Nicely done! It’s great to see so many beautiful books written by friends. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing A Mother for His Twins…I appreciate it. I’m late to the party. I’ve been battling the worst flu I’ve ever endured. Happy New Year! ❤

It’s a bad flu season, Jill. Take good care of yourself. I don’t expect to read as much this year as things with my parents have smoothed out a little, for the moment. But reading really did balance out the stress. Wishing you a speedy recovery and a healthy happy New Year!
