Can you guess who this is?
I have a framed picture in my bedroom on a small table. It was drawn by a local artist, Kerri Boutwell, and I eagerly bought it several years ago.
Lately, on several occasions, I’ve noticed the portrait turned around and facing the wall. I’d turn it back, only to find it flipped around again several days later.
Finally, last week, I mentioned the odd ritual to my husband. “Have you been turning the picture around?”
“Yeah. I don’t like the cowboy staring at me while I’m in bed.”
“The cowboy?” I laughed. “That’s not a cowboy. It’s Mark Twain!”
Well, apparently it’s okay to have Mark Twain staring at him in bed because the drawing hasn’t moved.
Isn’t it a great picture? I never knew Twain was so handsome, even with the god-awful mustache.

Ha! What a great story!! Aren’t some of the unspoken assumptions in a marriage so funny, sometimes. It occurred to him to turn the “cowboy” around, but not to ask why you wanted a picture of a handsome guy in your bedroom? 😂 Still, what a beautiful example of marital trust and acceptance.

Exactly, Amanda. And once he realized it was Twain (who is dead and clearly not competing for my attention) he didn’t care anymore. Ha ha ha. Too funny. Thanks for the visit and I’m glad it made you laugh.

Thank you, my lovely. I thought this was pretty funny and had to share. My husband is putting up with Mark in the bedroom now that he knows it’s not some random man. Lol. 😀

Hehe! I was also thinking of Sam Elliot! 😄 Who by the way is the only man I grant to look good with such a moustache! 😄 Excellent drawing! And that it’s actually Mark Twain makes it even better – who knew he was so handsome?! 😄

I agree about Sam Elliot being one of the few gents who can pull off a big mustache (though I’d make him trim it anyway! Lol). Yeah, Twain was pretty striking in the portrait. I’m hanging onto him. 🙂

I’m glad you saw the humor in this one, Kevin. I think my husband was just annoyed when he thought I’d put a random man’s portrait in the bedroom. Once he knew it was Twain, he was okay with it. After all, the fellow’s dead. Lol. Thanks for the visit, my friend.

You’re welcome. I think he was more freaked out by having a random man in the bedroom. Ha! When it was Mark Twain, it made sense to him (Mark is surrounded by books).

LOL! I guessed it was Mark Twain right away. Funny how your hubs doesn’t want a cowboy looking at him. Then again, if it wasn’t Mark Twain, I’d guess Sam Elliot. He did a lot of cowboy roles 😀

A bunch of people thought it might be Sam Elliot. It’s that mustache! Twain is still in the bedroom, but the hubby is handling it okay now that he’s not some random stranger. Ha ha.

No, I didn’t recognize Mark Twain. In fact, at first with your question, I thought it was your guy in younger years. You can tell him I said that too. Maybe he’ll put the picture then, over the fireplace mantle. 🙂
