I Need a Little Help with Book Covers

armadillo-1169132_960_720

I need your help with book covers.

My lovely book designer (for reasons beyond her control) had to back out of doing covers for my book series. My publishing deadline is August 20, which in book-time translates to pressure. I need to submit to Createspace on Thursday ๐Ÿ™‚ Yikes!

So, I spent the weekend pulling together some covers until my brain turned to mush and I lost all perspective. You are all so sweet and supportive, but I need honest feedback. Your candid opinions are not only welcome but invaluable! And don’t worry, I have armadillo skin.

Here they are:

Thanks!

On Another Note: I completely forgot to include in my Interview of Steven Bairdย the link to his blog. So, here it is: Ordinary Handsome. Definitely worth checking out (After you help me with my covers! Ha ha! ๐Ÿ™‚ )

  1. I like First and Last, good luck with your venture.

  2. They all look pretty eye catching. The first and last are my favourites!

  3. I like the last one best. Using different pallettes for each book was a good call. I hope the covers help boost readership. I’ve never tried it myself, but I’ve read from reputable people that it’s a good way to give an existing series fresh interest. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I made changes to all of the Cathleen, though they are still generally the same, if that makes sense. The dragons are all different now (the biggest change). The publisher’s covers didn’t thrill me, so I didn’t want to purchase them. And now I can brand the series. I think it’s going to help ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for weighing in!

I liked these all and possibly they have been tweaked since you received so many marvelous comments. Diana, I was very sympathetic to the loss of your artist, book designer. Take care and you are almost finished with the cover details. Cheers! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thanks Robin ๐Ÿ™‚ I submitted them this morning so they are being reviewed by Amazon. I’m on schedule and will show them off with all the modifications next week! Hope you are having a great weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. I don’t know if you’re still looking for comments or not, but it you are, these were my first impressions. I love the background pattern and the color variations of the four books. I also like the fonts used. The title and author name are a little hard to read on the fourth one. I think the covers would be better, though, if each book had a different dragon on it for variety. The same dragon on all four books was a little too much repetition for me.

  7. Hi Diana. I’m sorry to be too late for the “party”… but it looks like you got a ton of comments. For my 2 cents’ worth — I like them. I think related images are very important for a series. So I like that you’ve used basically repeat images in different colors.

    • I ended up making quite a few tweaks based on the suggestions and dismembered and reassembled the dragons so there is a little variety. ๐Ÿ™‚ Everyone was hugely helpful as I knew they would be. Thanks for chiming in. I appreciate it!

    • Thanks, Marlyn! After all the comments, the biggest change I made was dismembering and reassembling the dragons so now they’re all different! Plus making the lettering a little easier to read. Thanks so much for the feedback. I’m glad you like my emergency efforts. ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Thanks, Joanne. I worked on making all the lettering stand out more. Plus lots of other ideas that people had. Everyone was sooo helpful. What a difference! Can’t wait to post them again after they’re official. ๐Ÿ™‚
